Sri Lankan President hails Chinese assistance during war

COLOMBO, Sept 19 (APMG)- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena hailed assistance extended by China to Sri Lanka during the war, and said it would never be forgotten.

He said this when Central Committee member of the   Communist Party of China (CPC) Chen Min’er called on him at his office on Thursday.  

A statement from the President’s Media Office said the two leaders exchanged views bilateral relations and regional stability.

Chen recalled how Sri Lanka stood by China by signing the Rubber –Rice Pact in 1950. Also, he called Sri Lanka supported One China policy.  He invited a delegation of President Sirisena’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to the next convention of the CPC.

According to the statement, SLFP Vice President Nimal Siripala de Silva said his party was founded based on non-aligned foreign policy.
