SL confirms record 1,891 COVID cases yesterday

Sri Lanka is witnessing a frightening surge in daily coronavirus cases with all districts in the country reporting new infections largely connected to the New Year COVID-19 cluster.
1,891 new coronavirus infections were detected yesterday, the highest single-day spike in the country, since the pandemic broke out early last year.
The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka accordingly increased to 111,753.
Among yesterday’s cases 1,843 were linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster while 48 persons who arrived in the country recently from overseas also tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 13,815 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.
Yesterday, 764 persons who recovered from COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 97,242.
1,108 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.
